Synopsis

Cessna Stationair instructor and trainee reported hitting two taxi lights as the aircraft was exiting the runway. The pilots taxied the aircraft to the hangar.

Narrative

Near the conclusion of a training flight intended to give PF practice in the right seat for proficiency purposes; PF conducted a no-flap landing. The no-flap landing was relatively standard; with no significant adverse conditions noted. After touchdown on XXL; we continued rolling towards the end of the runway. PF was mostly off the brakes; but I concurred with the decision since we performed a no-flap landing and were initially traveling at a higher-than-normal speed on the ground. I was off the controls (PF was flying); but I had eyes outside at the time. I noted our speeds and runway remaining as we continued the roll. Near the end of the runway; ATC gave an instruction along the lines of 'right turn off the runway and hold short runway XXR at Hotel;' to which PF confirmed; 'we will exit Juliet then hold short XXR at Hotel.'Approaching the turn; we appeared to be at a safe speed to make the right turn exiting Runway XXL/XYR onto taxiway J. As we made a right turn off the runway; I started to look down at my kneeboard to locate and review the after-landing checklist so that we could run it after clearing the hold short line. I did not note any skidding in the turn or indications of us being unbalanced during the turn. When I looked back up; we were still in the turn and beyond the 90 degrees required to exit onto the taxiway. PF appeared to be aware of the situation; but we were already halfway off the taxiway at that point when I looked up. We clipped two taxiway lights; one with the prop and the second with the main gear; before completing the correction onto the taxiway ahead. Some expletives were uttered; and I remember PF telling me he wasn't able to turn the plane straight in time to center on the taxiway. There was no noticeable slowdown or stoppage of the propeller during the off-taxiway operations; and the engine operation seemed normal. PF was able to steer to centerline on J facing southeast and then completed a left turn from taxiway J onto taxiway H to hold short of XXR/XYL. We briefly discussed the situation and elected to focus on taxiing the plane back to the hangar and notify airport ops once shut down. ATC gave us the crossing instructions; and we proceeded back to the hangar.

Second reporter narrative

After landing XXL; departed runway on taxiway J (right turn). Very short distance to another right turn to stay on J. Turned too soon for the second right turn and departed the paved surface; knocking down 2 taxi lights.I was checking out in model and was apparently not sufficiently familiar with the response to rudder and differential braking on direction of movement. Additional training possibly required; but vigilance to instantly correct any unwanted ground tracks.
