DA-20 Falcon pilot in cruise flight reported engine flame out. Flight crew was able to restart engine and continued to destination. After landing maintenance found FOD damage to engine.
Narrative
We departed with 1500# of freight and had just gotten to cruise altitude when there was a loud pop and then a yaw to the left. We experienced a flameout; first time in my career. Captain was starting on some some paperwork; then looked up to see what had happened. We lost power on the left engine but had rotation. LH gen annunciator illuminated. Captain took control of the aircraft. I called ATC and [requested priority] and lower altitude as we discussed our options and worked on our checklist. We decided to try and get the engine started since we were in our envelope for restart and had no other irregular indications. Restart was immediate and we had full power and no regular sounds or indications. Good temps and pressures all around; like nothing had happened. We decided to continue on to our destination and finish our leg. Captain canceled the [request of priority]. We called company dispatch via FSS along the route and advised them that we had to have the aircraft checked over that night before any other legs. The aircraft flew normally and landing at destination was normal. We offloaded to another company aircraft that was sent to meet us. The next day mechanics were dispatched and found the engine had FOD damage internally; sufficient enough to require engine replacement.
