Synopsis
An air carrier pilot reported they had to apply their brakes quickly to avoid a CRJ900 taxiing through the same intersection they were approaching.
Narrative
While flying Aircraft X; a A321 from ZZZ to ZZZ1; we were given taxi instructions from spot XX on Terminal X. We exited the ramp and Ground Control instructed us to taxi to Runway XXR via Taxiway 1 and to hold short of Taxiway 2. While taxing on Taxiway 1; as we approached Taxiway 3; what looked like a Company CRJ900 overtook us on our left side on Taxiway 3 and turned west right into Taxiway 3 crossing Taxiway 1 in front of us and into the Terminal area. The Company aircraft appeared to be taxing very fast and did not make any attempt to slow down. We had to apply the brakes quickly to avoid a possible ground collision. I talked to the Ground Controller explaining that we were never given instructions to hold short of Taxiway 3 and the Company aircraft cut right in front of us without stopping and how that was a close call. The Ground Controller stated that he saw what happened and he was going to talk to the Company pilot. We continued the taxi on Taxiway 1 and before the Ground Controller transferred us to the Tower Controller he apologized for what happened and stated he had talked to the Company pilot. The flight proceeded to ZZZ1 without incident.
