Synopsis
M20J pilot reported electrical failure inflight. Pilot continued to destination airport and landed uneventfully.
Narrative
Departed ZZZ1 to ZZZ via direct ZZZ2; ZZZ. After reaching cruise I noticed a large battery charge rate. Shortly afterward the alt Field CB popped and all electrical was lost. A burnt smell was noticed so all electrical was shed. I had a hand held gps and an ipad and there wasn't a cloud in the sky so the flight was continued to ZZZ. I was able to text a friend and asked him if he could call ZZZ tower and see if they were ok with me to continue and land there. He got back to me and said they were good with it and to contact him around ZZZ3. I sent another text to my friend around ZZZ3 and he now said that ZZZ tower insisted I call them before approaching and landing. By the time I got the updated text to call the tower I was at 3000 feet roughly 25 miles from ZZZ with the gear down and an unknown fuel quantity. I called ZZZ tower and via the phone they told me to continue. At 3 miles the tower could see me and they gave ne the verbal cleared to land via the phone and the green light. I continued and landed. After landing via the phone the tower cleared me to taxi to my hangar. Clear; smooth weather and being able to get the go ahead from ZZZ tower via a friend was the only reason I continued.
