NEW MANUFACTURER NAV SYS SOFTWARE HAD ACRIMONIOUS DISCUSSION WITH MANUFACTURER REPRESENTATIVE OF MANUFACTURER MODEL NAV 24 HRS EARLIER (AT HELI ASSOCIATION INTL) REGARDING INADEQUATE DOCUMENTATION AND TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS FOR USE OF SOFTWARE RELATING TO FMS SIDS AND STARS. TRIED TO LET SYS SUPPLY FLT DIRECTOR WITH NAV DATA TO FLY MEAD AND DEP. SYS WAS SLOW OR FAILED TO INITIATE FIRST TURN FROM RWY HDG (255 DEGS) TO HDG 270 DEGS -- HAD TO DISENGAGE SYS AND USE RAW DATA TO CONTINUE DEP. WAS UNABLE TO QUICKLY IDENT 280 DEG RADIAL OFF LAS WHICH WAS TO BE CROSSED AT 7000 OR LESS. CTLR NOTIFIED ME OF DEV AND AS I DSNDED BACK TO 7000; EXCEEDED 250 KT SPD LIMIT (BELOW 10000) AND REACHED 290 KTS BEFORE SPD BRAKES EXTENDED. CTLR ADVISED NO CONFLICT AND TO CONTINUE CLB. I CAN'T THINK OR REACT FAST ENOUGH TO LEARN (SORT OUT) SYS IN THE AIR (ON IFR FLT PLAN). MANUFACTURERS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO DEVELOP SIMULATOR TRAINING PROGRAMS TO LEARN NEW EQUIP AND SOFTWARE. A SESSION WITH A SALESMAN (WHO MAY NOT EVEN BE A PLT) DOESN'T GET IT!
