Synopsis

ACFT LGT ACFT DAMAGED DURING RAMP OP RAMP DEP PROC PUSHBACK TOW OUT.

Narrative

AFTER TOW BAR RELEASED; ACFT WAS MOVED FORWARD ABOUT 1 TO 2 FT; BEFORE LINEMAN GAVE WAVEOFF. ACFT STRUCK TOW BAR AND DAMAGED NOSE BRAKE ASSEMBLY. ACFT RETURNED TO GATE AND REPLACED L NOSE WHEEL BRAKE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 206326: THE PUSHBACK WAS COMPLETE; THE TUG WAS PULLED BACK FROM THE ACFT AND I HAD RECEIVED VERBAL WAVE-OFF FROM THE TUG DRIVER. AS WE WERE COMPLETING THE BEFORE- TAXI CHKLIST. I NOTICED A TRUCK HDG FOR THE TUG AND WONDERED IF IT WAS GOING TO STOP IN TIME. I REACHED UP AND TURNED ON THE L WING FLOOD LIGHT IN ORDER TO GET THE ATTN OF THE TRUCK DRIVER SO HE WOULD STOP; WHICH HE DID. NEXT; I LOOKED AROUND AND THERE WAS NO GND MARSHALLER. THIS IS NOT UNUSUAL AS MANY TIME THE MARSHALLER IS IN A DIFFERENT POS THAN L FRONT OF THE ACFT. (SUCH AS ON THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT OR ON THE TUG ITSELF). SEEING THE TUG BACKED AWAY FROM THE ACFT; AND THE ABSENCE OF A GND MARSHALLER; AND HAVING RECEIVED A VERBAL WAVE OFF FROM THE TUG DRIVER; I ADVANCED THE PWR TO MOVE THE ACFT UP TO THE 'CIRCLE.' AS THE ACFT MOVED FORWARD APPROX 1 - 2 FT; IT STRUCK THE TOW BAR.
