Synopsis

B737-700 flight crew reported they discovered a brake fire while parking and the plane was evacuated.

Narrative

Normal landing on Runway XX at ZZZ; with minimal breaking. Cleared to taxi to Gate X. Approaching gate; I shut #2 Engine down and noticed more thrust needed to taxi on one engine into gate. Upon arrival and before removing headset I heard Ground Control ask if we were still on frequency and advised that another carrier Ground Crew observed a brake fire flash out around Taxiway 1. I requested FO (First Officer) to open his window and see if he could see hot brakes. FO reported seeing a brake fire. I requested him to call ATC and send fire trucks. The jetbridge was currently approaching the forward entry door. I then called Flight Attendants and advised of brake fire and requested them to inform Passengers to leave their bags and immediately exit through forward entry door.FO and I completed Parking Checklist. FO reported Ground Crew extinguished fire. I made a PA to Passengers to leave their bags and quickly exit the aircraft through the forward entry door. After all passengers were deplaned; I went outside to speak with Fire Chief and Company Maintenance. Once safe; had Flight Attendants return onboard to retrieve remaining passenger carry on bags. Called Dispatch and held conference call with multiple departments in Operations. Documented brake fire in logbook and turned over airplane to Maintenance Personnel.

Second reporter narrative

After landing on Runway XX in ZZZ we taxied to Gate X. Minimal braking was used on landing and shortly after we turned into the ramp area in ZZZ; Ground notified us of a potential brake fire. We had just set the parking brake at the gate and the Captain shut the engines down and asked me to look out my side to see if I could see a fire. I opened my window and observed a fire near the right main gear/brakes. At this point the jetbridge was connected and we had every passenger leave their bag and exit the aircraft through the forward entry door via the jetbridge. During this time; we had no cockpit indications of a fire; and Ground Personnel started treating this fire with an extinguisher. We also asked Tower to send the fire trucks out in which they arrived quickly after and were able to extinguish the fire.Still unsure what caused this brake fire. Auto brakes were not used and minimal braking was used to stop the aircraft.
