Synopsis
ERJ-175 Captain reported being unfamiliar with the departure procedures and did not follow the obstacle procedures upon departure; which resulted in crossing the VOR lower than the required altitude.
Narrative
Departing Runway XX we were filed direct ZZZ [VOR]; then as filed. It was VFR conditions and VFR traffic was in the pattern being a nice afternoon. We were cleared for takeoff and not given any instruction on to fly runway heading or direct to a fix. As we climbed out with flaps 4; so we had a high angle of climb. My terrain map was up and so was my TCAS for VFR traffic in the area. We failed to brief the MEA on Victor Airway ZZZ; which [was] 12000 on our direction of flight. We failed to follow the obstacle departure procedure which is climbing left turned to ZZZ [VOR] and continue climb in holding pattern southwest of ZZZ VOR to cross at or above MEA/MCA for route of flight. We crossed the ZZZ VOR between 10;500 ft. and 11;500. We had radar contact at ZZZ VOR and heard Aircraft X radar contact over ZZZ VOR" from ZZZ Center. I then turned on filed course. Contributing factors; rushed due to late inbound because of weather delay at ZZZ1; so I was feeling rushed by ground crew to get out quickly. I was unfamiliar with ZZZ departure procedure; ATC Tower had VFR traffic in pattern and was occupied by them. Nonstandard gate procedures. Inadequate brief on my behalf. A more through briefing would have been adequate to avoiding this error. A nonstandard departure was noted; and should have been included in greater detail within my brief."
