Synopsis

Air carrier pilot reported loss of aircraft control during taxi for takeoff. Captain regained control and flight departed eventually.

Narrative

Taxiing east on taxiway 1; for a [Taxiway] 1 intersection departure off XXR; at approximately 12 knots; was cleared for takeoff. The taxiways had been treated for possible ice; although the airport was dry and above freezing by then. As I turned the tiller to the right to follow the first 45 degree turn onto taxiway 1; I could feel the aircraft continuing straight. Straightening the tiller I applied brakes but the right mains slipped with zero traction. The left mains did have a little stopping traction and pulled the aircraft to the left; away from the desired direction of travel. The aircraft lurched back and forth a few times as the mains caught and slipped until finally stopping with the nose just feet from going off the taxiway. We told the tower we wanted to cancel the takeoff and slowly taxied down the runway and pulled off to analyze what had happened. The brakes and steering seemed normal. I concluded we had skid on whatever the taxiway had been treated with even at a slow speed. We reported to tower our loss of steering and braking action at that one spot on taxiway 1. After ensuring we were both comfortable and the plane was set for departure; we took off full length with no issues.Cause: In daylight; at a dry airport; above freezing; I had no reason to believe the aircraft would not turn at a slow speed while taxiing. I have made sharper turns on compacted snow; ice; and standing water with no loss of steering or braking; so our inability to turn or stop came as a surprise.Suggestions: Having taxied over treated taxiways and runways many times; I don't know what the solution is; but I will certainly handle treated taxiways with much more caution.
