Synopsis

EMB-175 flight crew reported bleed air failure while at cruise altitude. Flight crew diverted to the nearest airport and safely landed.

Narrative

We was flying at toward ZZZ on a flight. As we was approaching ZZZ [VOR]; ATC recommended us to change to the ZZZZZ RNAV arrival and descend down to FL240 from FL260. While we was leveling off at FL240; we saw bleed 2 fail. I ask the captain to reference QRH while I have the radio and control. Our engine 1 bleed was already on MEL so while my captain was going through the QRH; I ask the controller we need to descend since we have a pressurization issue. Before long my captain and I saw our cabin Alt was climbing and Cabin Alt Hi warning message appear. I ask my captain to go through the QRH. During that time; Auto fail and wing A-I fail cautious also came on. After we went through the QRH and requested priority handling; he contact dispatch closer alternate. While he talking to dispatch; his oxygen Mask Mic wasn't working well so he ask me to talk to ATC and that's when they told me us we can divert to ZZZ1 since it's the closest airport. Then we switch to his control since I couldn't hear him while he was running the QRH. I ran through the QRH for the three cautious messages. On our way to ZZZ1; we realize that our electronic flight bag did not have the approach for ZZZ1. Dispatch told us we can divert to ZZZ2 when we figured this out so I ask ATC to change to ZZZ2. After that we landed at ZZZ2.

Second reporter narrative

Our flight was inbound to ZZZ [airport]. From our position; at the time; our next fix was ZZZ [VOR] and was scheduled to fly the ZZZZZ1 STAR into ZZZ [airport]. ATC advised us to switch arrivals to the ZZZZZ STAR for weather and route efficiency. I needed to get our weather for ZZZ airport and asked my First Officer to take comm 1. When I had rejoined him on Comm 1; the new ATC controller was advising us that previous aircraft were not able to pass through the line of weather into ZZZ and asked for our intentions. At that time; we were on the descent from FL260 and leveling off FL240 and received a BLEED 2 FAIL. We ran the QRH in accordance with the procedure. (Note: Aircraft already had MEL ENGINE BLEED VALVE). We requested our descent with ATC even further because the problems we were having with our pressurization and noticed that our cabin altitude climbing. In our continued decent; we received the CABIN ALT HIGH Warning message; in which we initiated QRH procedures. During that time we also received PRESN AUTO FAIL; along with WING A-1 FAIL Caution messages. As we were donning our oxygen mask; per the QRH; I discovered that the communication function of my oxygen was not working appropriately and I was having extremely great difficulty talking to my FO (First Officer); Passengers and Flight Attendants. Appropriately; we requested priority handling and; in addition; the need to divert due to weather blocking our route to ZZZ. ATC gave us the options of ZZZ1 and ZZZ3 airports for diversion; however; I came to the conclusion that those were not the best options due to the weather; unfamiliarity of airport layout and services and no available approach plates in our electronic flight bag. After we ran the procedures for all our EICAS messages and pressurization was under control; I wanted an airport I knew had services; was a reasonable distance given our fuel onboard and had an instrument approach; in case I needed to go missed approach in a low ceilings and weather environment. Dispatch gave us the weather and information to ZZZ2; which I concurred with and fly the RNAV Runway XX into that airport. On landing; vehicles were waiting; but we were able fly the approach within standards and with no additional issues. During this series of events; ATC was notified; and dispatch; flight attendants and passengers were notified; as well. At the end; a normal; safe landing was conducted to ZZZ2 with no aircraft damage or injuries to passengers or crew.Suggestion: Given the issues and difficulties that took place from the captain's oxygen mask communications; I felt my FO and I have followed company protocols and procedures outlined in the QRH; resulting in a safe and successful diversion to landing. As a crew; we had to work around the barriers of decreased communications; but worked together as a team; abiding by ATC instructions. At the end; crew commutations is paramount and I; the captain; made the appropriate entries in the maintenance logbook to have these issues remedied.
