Narrative
THIS IS A REPEAT RPT FOR CEDAR KEY (LEWIS) ARPT -- PREVIOUS RPT FROM THIS SOURCE INCLUDED PICTURES OF CONFLICTING AIRPLANE/AUTOMOBILE TFC ON WHAT PLTS PERCEIVE AS A TAXIWAY WHICH IS IN FACT A COUNTY ROAD PARALLEL TO RWY. THERE IS A JOB NOW BIDDING FOR LIGHT REPLACEMENT AND PAINTING LINES TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP ACFT OFF ROAD. I DON'T THINK THIS WILL SOLVE PROBLEM ENTIRELY -- BESIDES WHICH; AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED 2 WKS AGO IN WHICH AN AIRPLANE BOUNCED FROM RWY; STRUCK CAR ON ROAD; THEN ENDED UP AGAINST A TREE -- FORTUNATELY; NO FIRE NOR INJURIES TO CAR OCCUPANTS. HOWEVER; THIS WAS AVOIDABLE IF ACCESS ROAD WAS REPOSITIONED AT ARPT PROPERTY EDGE WHICH ALREADY HAS A GRAVEL ROAD IN PLACE. BECAUSE OF POLITICAL OPPOSITION; COUNTY REFUSES TO CONSIDER THIS; BUT I THINK THIS IS A MAJOR EVENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. FL; DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THEY WON'T FINANCE THIS BECAUSE IT CAN'T BE DONE WITHIN FAA CONSTRAINTS; WHICH ARE IMPOSSIBLE IN THIS CASE BECAUSE OF GEOGRAPHY. ARPT ENGINEER AGREED WITH MYSELF; AND OTHER PLTS; THAT OUR SOLUTION IS THE OBVIOUS; THAT THE COUNTY COULD GO AHEAD AND DO IT ON THEIR OWN -- BUT I REPEAT; POLITICAL OPPOSITION HAS BLOCKED IT. THEREFORE; I TAKE THIS METHOD TO PERHAPS APPLY MORE PRESSURE FROM A DIFFERENT DIRECTION -- WHICH I MIGHT ADD I HAVE HEARD ENCOURAGING RESULTS FROM ON OTHER MATTERS FOR WHICH I THANK AND COMMEND YOU.
