Synopsis

ACR HAS FIRE WARNING AFTER LIFT OFF. RETURN BUT RVR BELOW SINGLE ENG MINS. GAR AND SECOND APCH RVR OK.

Narrative

ON TKOF CVG AT 1600 MSL (APPROX 800 AGL); R ENG FIRE WARNING CAME ON. FIRE WARNING DID NOT GO OUT UNTIL FIRE HANDLE WAS PULLED. DID FIRE TEST AND WAS GOOD. SUSPECTED PNEUMATIC LEAK. ELECTED NOT TO FIRE FIRE BOTTLES. FLT ATTENDANT CHKED ENG FOR DAMAGE AND SMOKE. NOTIFIED ATC AND CLEANED UP AND CLBED ON 1 ENG TO GO BACK FOR APCH. DURING APCH; RVR DROPPED BELOW MINS (2400) FOR SINGLE ENG APCH. DID GAR FROM APPROX 2200 MSL/1300 AGL. RETURNED FOR SECOND APCH. RVR 6000 PLUS AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. MAINT FOUND LEAKING EIGHTH STAGE DUCT AND BLOWN THIRTEENTH STAGE DUCT GOING TO ANTI-ICE VALVE. FROM TKOF TO LNDG WAS APPROX 30 MINS EVEN THOUGH WE NEVER GOT MORE THAN 15 MI FROM ARPT DUE TO WX AND DOING 2 APCHS. FACTORS WERE TSTM AND RAINSHOWERS IN AREA; HVY AIRPLANE; GUSTY WIND; FLT WAS VERY BUSY FOR AWHILE BECAUSE OF 2 MAN CREW. WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE A THIRD CREW MEMBER. OLD AIRPLANE (APPROX 1968). IF WE DID NOT ELECT TO DO GAR EARLY; IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE ONCE GEAR AND FLAPS WERE DOWN. TRAINING HELPED. JUST LIKE IN SIMULATOR.
