Synopsis
General aviation pilot reported during landing their shoe became stuck under the rudder pedal resulting in loss of control and runway excursion. Pilot freed their foot and guided aircraft back onto the runway.
Narrative
Upon landing; the aircraft began to drift right. I then realized that my left shoe had slid under the left rudder pedal. I was unable to easily pull it out and doing so pulled the aircraft to the right even more to the edge of the Runway XXR (ZZZ) and into the grass. Upon freeing my left foot the aircraft was returned safely to the runway. There was no damage to the runway or lighting system and no damage to the aircraft. The Tower asked if all was ok and I replied yes and that my left foot slipped off the left rudder pedal and my shoe was wedged under the left rudder pedal and removing it pulled the aircraft to the right side of the runway edge into the grass momentarily; then corrected.I then proceeded to Customs for inspection. When I returned to the aircraft and departed for ZZZ1 and landed uneventfully. With more than 6;000. landings in many kinds of aircraft and more without ever an unpleasant outcome. Remedy: do not ware loose fitting loafers that are; flexible or that could in any way slip off of your foot or the rudder pedals and end up under or between the pedals. Removing the shoe from under the rudder pedals will pull the aircraft to one side or the other depending on how this happens. Definitely wear a lased up shoe that cant slip off of your feet or get caught between; under or around the rudder pedals.
