Synopsis
B737 flight crew reported critical ground conflict during takeoff with traffic landing on another runway. Flight crew continued takeoff; passing under the other aircraft as it performed a go-around.
Narrative
First leg of OE (Operating Experience) for brand new FO. Pre brief in Ops with thorough brief and preflight. Ground instructions were to taxi to Runway XXR at ZZZ [airport] via Taxiway 1; Taxiway 2". Was cleared line up and wait. Then subsequently cleared for Takeoff XXR. During takeoff roll at approximately 75 kias; the runways status lights activated with Red lights. The FO (PM) states runway lights are red. FO looks to his right and spots approaching traffic on short final to Runway XYL. That landing traffic was called by tower as on a 2 mile final when we were cleared for takeoff. During takeoff roll as we approach high speed reject criteria; the decision was made to continue takeoff when status lights illuminated to red as a high speed reject would have posed a more looming threat for converging traffic on intersecting runways. FO (PM) did a great job spotting the traffic. PF; LCA (Line Check Airman); made callouts for rotation since PM was spotting the converging landing traffic that was now executing a go-around. Also; PF queried ZZZ Tower as to takeoff clearance during takeoff roll to confirm correct clearance. ZZZ tower immediately called for the aircraft to go around on XYL as they realized the sequence was not safe.Departure proceeded normally thereafter but this was an ATC threat of parallel landing traffic too close in proximity. The Runway status lights coming on during takeoff roll approaching the high speed reject regime posed a non-standard briefing threat to abort criteria."
Second reporter narrative
We were on [runway] XXR with instructions to line up and wait. ZZZ tower cleared us for takeoff and advised us of traffic on 2nm final for the parallel runways. The captain applied TO (Take Off) power and began the TO roll as normal. Approximately 30 seconds after the takeoff clearance was given we noticed that the red status bar lights had illuminated. I noticed an aircraft on final approaching the threshold of one of runway XY. I called out red lights" and that there was an aircraft on final. The captain inquired the tower if we were cleared for TO. Tower issued a go around call to the landing aircraft. Due to our high speed condition and the fact that the conflicting aircraft was now going around the captain continued the takeoff and passed underneath the other aircraft. The takeoff continued without issue."
