Synopsis

UNAUTHORIZED UNCOORD PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE. PROX OF ATA.

Narrative

I WAS VFR 1500 FT MSL IN DOWNTOWN LA AND MY SON STARTED VOMITING; WHICH IN TURN MADE MY WIFE SICK (VOMITING); AND IN THE CONFUSION THAT AROSE FROM THIS; I FOUND I HAD GOTTEN OFF COURSE AND BROKEN SMO'S AIRSPACE. I WAS HDG RIGHT AT LAX SO I MADE AN ALMOST 180 DEG TURN AND WAS HDG MIDFIELD OVER SMO. BY THE TIME I FOUND SMO IN MY FLT GUIDE AND COULD TALK TO THEM; I HAD CROSSED MIDFIELD AT 1500 FT. I DID THEN TALK TO TWR AND GOT CLRNC TO LAND AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH OTHER TFC. HOWEVER; THE TWR WAS NOT HAPPY WITH ME AND TOLD ME TO CALL THEM WHEN I LANDED. I DID THIS AND EXPLAINED ABOUT THE FAMILY GETTING SICK; AND THAT THINGS HAD GOTTEN A LITTLE BIT MESSY FOR ME UP THERE AND I WAS DOING THE BEST I COULD AT THE TIME FOR THE MESS I WAS IN. THEY SAID I SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE IT ANYWAY. I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANYTHING ANYONE COULD DO ABOUT THE SICKNESS PROBLEM BUT FOR MYSELF IN THE FUTURE; I THINK I WILL RAISE MY OWN VFR MIN CEILINGS/VISIBILITY MIN IN A TCA. 3 MI VISIBILITY WITH A 2200 FT CEILING I DON'T THINK IS ENOUGH. NOT IN LA ANYWAY. I WILL NOT FLY UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS AGAIN ANYWAY.
