Synopsis
Air carrier Captain reported a safety concern regarding minimum taxiway width at PWM for the aircraft while following an ATC clearance to the gate; when there was no source guidance in company materials. The Captain was able to complete the turn and taxi to the gate.
Narrative
Upon landing in PWM on runway 11; Tower advised us to hurry and make right turn on [taxiway] C because of aircraft on a mile and a half final. There is major construction on taxiway A and C. We had to taxi C to backtrack on runway 36 to make a left on 29 to make a right on D to be able to get to the gate. Being in a hurry as I turn into C; it caught me off guard how narrow C is. I taxied C to B to runway 36 as we do it at other airports. However major concern is anything larger than Aircraft X and also any nighttime operation. I couldn't find any information on minimum taxiway width on FOM nor other materials. I called Dispatcher but no information either as minimum legal taxiway width. I called PWM Tower. He said they are extremely aware of the issue because they have had a couple of aircraft take taxi light out with their gear while making turn C to B to 36. I called for assistance. Told to write a report and called a CP (Chief Pilot). If I had been on anything bigger than Aircraft X I think I would have had to stop and called for a tow bar. There is no reference anywhere other than NOTAMS on closure of the area of [taxiway] A and C. Cause: Taxiway width on C which is not normal route from runway to gates. Suggestions: Research if any messages need to be put out or coordinate with Tower how to get jetliner to gates due to construction.
