Synopsis

Bombardier Global 5000 crew reported uncommanded aircraft movement on ramp prior to starting engines when the ramp personnel removed the chocks without notifying the pilots; causing the crew to abruptly apply the brakes.

Narrative

We were getting ready for departure at ZZZ; getting the airplane set up for start and when we stated to the line personnel that we were about ready to start engines they acknowledged and were going to help us. At this point we were still chocked with the brakes off (to cool) and were just getting the door closed and seated in our seats. We felt the airplane started moving forward and had to abruptly put the brakes on. We realized that the lines personnel removed the chocks without notifying us prior. As the brakes were set it looks like we were still inside the 'non-movement area' of the FBO but it seemed like the airport personnel were looking at our positioning. This prompted us to write this report as we aren't sure if we were considered to be passed the line or not.Cause: I think this was caused by the line personnel removing the chocks without proper; prior notification. If they had confirmed with us visually once we were inside the flight deck and seated this would have been avoided.Suggestions: I think this was a one-off type of event. But could be further prevented by letting personnel know not to remove chocks until they visibly confirm once we are seated and attentive to the outside (not in process of getting ready inside)

Second reporter narrative

During pre-engine start. The ground crew off chocked the airplane without letting us know. The plane moved forward and we had to brake and stop the aircraft without entering to our opinion the surface movement area. Cause: Miss- communication with ground crew and lack of correct procedure from ground crew personnel.Suggestions: Instructing ground crew to stay.
