COMMUTER ACFT CONFUSED BY TAXIWAY SIGNS CROSSES ACTIVE RWY.

Narrative

WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI FROM OUR RAMP TO RWY 35. AFTER BEGINNING THE TAXI VIA UNIFORM TAXIWAY TO RWY 35 TO HOLD SHORT OF 27R; I COMMENCED TO TAXI VIA ECHO (WHICH WAS LEGAL CONSIDERING YOU MUST GET ON SMALL STRETCH OF ECHO TO UNIFORM) TO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS UNIFORM -- UNKNOWINGLY I CROSSED RWY 17-35 ON ECHO AND CONTINUED TAXIING. I REALIZED I WAS NOT ON UNIFORM WHEN I DIDN'T SEE RWY 17-35 OFF TO MY L. THE GND CTLR ASKED ME WHAT I WAS DOING OFF COURSE. AT THAT POINT; I WAS IN THE WRONG. FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE INCIDENT. THINKING I KNEW THE ARPT WELL ENOUGH NOT TO HAVE GND CHARTS READILY AVAILABLE. FOS ARE NOT ISSUED CHARTS -- WHICH SHOULD BE REQUIRED FOR ALL PART 121/135 OPS. CONFUSING TAXIWAY IDENT SIGNS (SEE BELOW). GREEN TAXIWAY LIGHTS THAT LIT ECHO TAXIWAY UP. THE MOST CONFUSING ITEM WAS THE WAY THE TAXIWAY IDENT SIGNS ARE SHOWN -- IT SHOWS ARROWS POINTING IN DIRECTIONS TO WHICH THE TAXIWAYS ARE REALLY NOT ALIGNED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. CALLBACK TO FACILITY REVEALS THAT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. RPTR STATES THAT THIS HAS ONLY OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 20 YRS WHILE HE WAS ON DUTY. HE ALSO BELIEVES THAT THE TAXIWAYS ARE APPROPRIATELY MARKED.
