Synopsis
A321 pilot reported encountering wake turbulence on arrival into JFK in trail of several heavy jets; including an A330.
Narrative
Flight was slowed to M.77 and was on an assigned heading for spacing into JFK via the Parch Arrival while at FL360. The aircraft started to wallow and then inappropriately rolled into an approximately 25-degree bank. The PF disconnected the autopilot and smoothly rolled wings level while maintaining FL360. The crew were approximately 20 NM directly behind Aircraft Y; presumably heavy; with another presumably heavy aircraft 10 NM directly ahead of that. We asked for a 5-degree offset due to a wake upset which was approved by ATC. ATC then assigned a descent and a heading change back to the arrival. At that point; an A330 appeared on the ND (Navigation Display) 10 NM ahead; in a descent two to three thousand feet below us. The A330 remained our interval throughout the remaining arrival and approach. The flight landed uneventfully. There were no injuries. The crew suspected that the vectoring most likely placed us in [the] A330's wake; but it is possible that the two aircraft ahead were the source.
