Synopsis

PA 28R instructor pilot and student reported a landing gear malfunction which resulted in an airspace incursion. The pilot exited the airspace; then landed safely.

Narrative

I was training a CFI initial applicant in his Arrow Aircraft X. We were doing many maneuvers between ZZZ1 and ZZZ2. On initiating a slow flight demo I noticed that the gear didn't deploy. Tried cycling a couple of times and then decided to stop the lesson and return to ZZZ. I gave control to the my student (PIC) of the flight and I'd run coms. As we returned to hooks we analyzed the situation and decided to 'blow' the gear down. I began the checklist and process. Got gear down and three green. Then we discussed further plans on how we'd talk to tower and get a low approach. I looked up and noticed we were over Location X and Y was in sight. From being a local instructor of about 5 years I knew exactly were we were. We were in ZZZ2's airspace. I commanded an immediate right turn to exit ZZZ2's delta airspace. We continued the flight to ZZZ; did the low approach to confirm gear down and landed without incident.Main reason for the violation is distraction due to the [priority handling] situation. As the CFI and overall ranking PIC I should have had better situational awareness of what airspace of we might be going in.

Second reporter narrative

I was receiving training for CFI initial in equity owned partnership PA28R-200 Aircraft X.We were doing practice maneuvers between ZZZ1 and ZZZ2. When initiating a slow flight demo; landing gear did not extend. Tried to cycle gear with no success. Aborted the maneuver; and stopped the lesson. I assumed control of the aircraft and instructor assumed comms.Started running checklist and determined return to ZZZ was best option. After checking breakers and placing gear control to down again; with sharp pitch change was able to get 3 green gear indication. Discussed further plans on on how to return to ZZZ and communicate to tower the situation and request fly by to verify gear down position when noticed we where about to enter ZZZ2 class D airspace. Was under ZZZ3 bravo shelf at 1500 ft. Made immediate west turn to exit airspace but clipped ZZZ2 D airspace.Continued flight to ZZZ and did the low approach to confirm gear down. Tower confirmed gear down and landed after the fly-by without incident.Reason for the airspace violation is distraction due the [priority handling] situation.Should have had better situational awareness of aircraft position in relation to ZZZ2 airspace.
