Synopsis

Air carrier flight crew reported a miscommunication between the Captain and ground personnel resulted in the aircraft moving a few feet before the ground crew was clear of the aircraft.

Narrative

During pushback; the ground plan was to tow the aircraft in front of gate XXX from XX. There was an aircraft in the way of XXX and there was a delay. During that time; the Captain was working with Maintenance Control about a SEC reset that occurred during an ECAM that happened during the pushback delay. The reset was accomplished at that time of delay and the problem was fixed resulting in a new Maintenance Release being sent. Then; the ramp instructions changed and we were told to disconnect in front XX which was our current position. There was a distraction and miscommunication with the parking brake being set. And there was a miscommunication between the ground marshals trying to get each other's attention. The distraction of comms between the Captain and the ground marshaller resulted in me clearing 'disconnect headset' without the parking brake being set. The call 'parking brake set; pressure normal' call was never given. That step was missed. This resulted in a slight inadvertent movement of the aircraft. The error was immediately recognized and the parking brake was set. The aircraft momentarily moved forward and the parking brake was set immediately.

Second reporter narrative

Initially ramp had us push tail west and disconnect abeam XXX from XX. Due to another aircraft in front of us ramp told us to disconnect at our current position (XX). There was a slight delay during the pushback. The captain informed the ground crew to disconnect. During this time the captain was coordinating with Maintenance Control about a MX issue that occurred during pushback. We had a few distractions at this time. Ground personnel disconnected without the positive commands of 'parking brake set pressure normal'. There was a clear miscommunication during the disconnect between the flight crew and ground personnel. The aircraft momentarily moved forward and then the parking brake was immediately set. The ground crew pulled away from the aircraft with normal procedures/salute.
