Synopsis
A flight school student reported during landing they lost control of the aircraft resulting in a runway excursion and contact with a runway sign.
Narrative
I was on a local solo flight NE of ZZZ. Everything about the flight and the airplane was normal. After returning from the NE practice area; I entered the pattern for XXL at ZZZ to practice landings. The first approach was a 4 mile final for XXL. Everything about the approach and landing was normal. I performed a touch and go and re-entered the pattern for another touch and go. This next lap in the pattern was also normal; along with the approach. However; upon landing; I noticed I was slightly left of centerline. I was already adding full power for the touch-and-go and applied right rudder to correct the problem. However; I was at too high of a speed and used too much right rudder; causing the aircraft to swerve to the right. In a panic; I applied left rudder to try to correct the aircraft; but lost control as it veered to the left. The aircraft exited the runway to the left as I pulled power. The propeller hit the 5000 feet marker sign and the aircraft rolled to a stop in the grass. To prevent this; I could've pulled power sooner. I also could've initiated a stop-and-go or requested a taxi back. Also; I should have gotten back on centerline before adding full power for the touch and go.
