Narrative
ON 6/FRI/92 AT XYPM I AND ANOTHER MECH WERE ASSIGNED TO FUEL CTL CHANGE ON AN MLG; #2 ENG. WE WERE TOLD BY OUR CREW CHIEF THAT THE PREVIOUS SHIFT HAD INSTALLED THE WRONG FUEL CTL (COMPANY PART NUMBER -- AB) ON THAT ENG; AND THAT WE WERE TO INSTALL THE PROPER ONE (PART DC) ON #2 ENG AND TAKE IT OUT FOR TRIM. WHILE I FINISHED LOOKING UP THE PAPERWORK FOR THE CTL CHANGE; THE OTHER MECH ASSIGNED TO THE JOB CALLED TECHNICAL SVCS TO DOUBLE CHK THAT WE WERE INSTALLING THE PROPER FUEL CTL ON THIS TIME. HE CAME BACK A SHORT TIME LATER AND SAID THAT TECHNICAL SVCS HAD SAID THAT CD WAS THE PROPER FUEL CTL SO WE INSTALLED IT AND RAN IT ALL CHKED GOOD EXCEPT FOR APCH IDLE ON THAT ENG. IT STILL DID NOT WORK. IT WAS PREVIOUSLY PLACARDED INOP A COUPLE DAYS EARLIER SO WE LEFT IT PLACARDED AND TOOK IT TO THE GATE FOR ITS TRIP. A FEW DAYS LATER WE FOUND OUT THAT THE CTL WE INSTALLED WAS THE WRONG ONE AND THAT THE RIGHT ONE WAS REINSTALLED LATER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 214360. THE AFTERNOON SHIFT CREW CHIEF SAID THAT AN INCORRECT ENG FUEL CTL; COMPANY PART NUMBER AB WAS INSTALLED ON THE #2 ENG OF ACR MLG. A FEW DAYS LATER IT WAS DISCOVERED THE AB CTL WAS THE CORRECT FUEL CTL AND THAT THE MECHS AND MYSELF WERE MISINFORMED TO INSTALL THE CD CTL AND AS I AM A CREW CHIEF FOR ACR IT IS MY DUTY TO INSPECT AND SIGN FOR THE MECHS WORK ON A FUEL CTL CHANGE. THE CORRECT FUEL CTL WAS LATER REINSTALLED BY ANOTHER SHIFT.
