Synopsis

Piper Cub pilot reported while in cruise they had a near miss with two general aviation aircraft flying in a tight formation. Pilots of all aircraft took evasive action to avoid a collision.

Narrative

On the morning of Day 0; I was flying a Piper J3 Cub for a morning cross country flight. I took off some time after dawn; did a touch and go at ZZZ; then flew direct to ZZZ1; where I did a touch and go; then I flew decided to fly around the north-eastern side of the mountain near ZZZ2 while en-route to land at ZZZ2 for fuel. Due to the morning haze; combined with the angle of the rising sun at XA:25; the visibility factor was still very much VFR; but tough. While in the vicinity of the north-eastern side of the mountain around 10 miles or less from ZZZ2; suddenly coming out of the haze heading straight on for me was two light GA aircraft in a tight formation flight. I'm assuming due to the low visibility that the pilots of the two formation aircraft may not have seen me until around the same time that I spotted them. Both myself; and the two GA aircraft in formation took immediate evasive action; and collision was avoided. I then continued on to ZZZ2 and landed without further incident.
