Synopsis

Cirrus Pilot reported while in VFR cruise they received a traffic alert and descended to avoid the traffic. Cirrus Pilot landed safely at the destination airport.

Narrative

On Day 0; I conducted a routine VFR flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1. The flight planning included standard VFR procedures such as route planning; weather assessment; review of NOTAMs; airspace considerations; weight and balance; and aircraft performance checks. The weather was clear with light winds and excellent visibility. While en route at an appropriate VFR altitude over ZZZ; I received a Traffic Alert (TA) indicating traffic [Aircraft Y] at my 12 o'clock position at the same altitude; approximately 2 to 3 miles away. I immediately made visual contact with the other aircraft; which appeared to be on a converging path. To maintain safe separation and ensure the safety of both aircraft; I elected to initiate a descent. This decision was based on the fact that I had the traffic both visually and; on my ADS;-B display; and descending would not force the other aircraft to adjust its altitude; should the pilot acquire visual contact with my aircraft. After confirming that safe separation was maintained throughout the maneuver; I continued to my destination without further incident. I initially did not consider this event significant enough to warrant a report; as there was no loss of separation; and the situation was resolved quickly and safely. However; on the afternoon of Day 7; I was contacted by the owner of the aircraft I was operating; who informed me they had been inquired about the traffic conflict. As a result; I am submitting this report to document the event and contribute to ongoing aviation safety efforts. In reflection; this incident has underscored the importance of maintaining vigilance and quickly responding to potential conflicts. It also highlights the incredible safety enhancement that ADS-B in and out brings to general aviation. In the future; I will continue to prioritize early detection and resolution of traffic conflicts to ensure the highest levels of safety.
