Synopsis

Air carrier Captain reported a taxi error at EWR due to new taxiways and ramp markings not being depicted on charts.

Narrative

Terminal A has changed the ramp design and markings south of the terminal nearest the Old Terminal A Building. We were given taxi instructions inbound after crossing 22R at N. Our instructions were to use A10 to A9 park [gate] XX. As I've done this many times and had the chart out I looked for the transition to A9; but it was blocked by cones. I then saw a taxiway further west that L1; where there is usually a fence. Then I noticed the fence was basically gone; moved all the way back to the old Terminal A building. As I transitioned to A9; the line had clearly been scrubbed from the concrete surface. A9 was gone. There was another parallel taxi line that used while we asked Ramp where A9 was. They said where we were was fine. On my Jeppesen AMM I was now taxiing in a closed red boxed area. As there was never any bulletin issued and I had NO prior knowledge of this change being in an uncharted area was very unnerving and potentially dangerous. Nothing happened; as we parked moments later; but the confusion of it all was high.
