AIRLINE MAINT PROC NOT FOLLOWED. ACFT MAINT PROBLEM DISCREPANCY RESULT OF OVERSIGHT.

Narrative

REF LOG PAGE; PLT RPT THAT CAPT'S WINDSHIELD WIPER INOPERATIVE. I REMOVED AND REPLACED CAPT'S WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. TO FACILITATE MAINT; THE CAPT'S INST PANEL NEEDED TO BE REMOVED. INSTALLATION OF THE INST PANEL AFTER THE MOTOR REPLACEMENT WAS DIFFICULT DUE TO THE LIMITATIONS OF WORKING SPACE WHEN INSTALLING INDICATORS. INBOUND PLT RPT IN PVD INDICATED THAT CAPT'S ALTIMETER WAS INOPERATIVE. CONTRACT MAINT IN PVD DETERMINED THAT THE CAPT'S ALTIMETER CONNECTION HAD COME OFF; RENDERING ALTIMETER INOPERATIVE. MAINT RECONNECTED ALTIMETER AND A WAS RELEASED FOR FLT TO EWR. QUALITY ASSURANCE RELEASING A FOR ONE FLT BACK TO EWR WHERE PLT STATIC LEAK CHK COULD BE ACCOMPLISHED. I DID NOT PERFORM A PITOT STATIC LEAK CHK ON THE ALTIMETER SYS AFTER ALTIMETER REPLACEMENT. I WAS PERFORMING THE JOB PER MLG MM CH 34-12-21 PAGE XY; WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE A PITOT STATIC LEAK CHK AFTER ALTIMETER REPLACEMENT. I WAS INFORMED AFTER THE INCIDENT BY OUR MAINT CTL THAT THE MAINT MANUAL HAD BEEN REVISED. REF MLG MM CH 34-12-21 PAGE XY-A; WHICH NOW REQUIRES THAT A PITOT STATIC LEAK CHK BE DONE AFTER THE VISUAL IS COMPLETED. I WAS AT FAULT BECAUSE I WAS UNAWARE THAT THE MM HAD BEEN REVISED TO REFLECT THIS CHANGE.
