FO OF ACR LGT ACFT EXPERIENCED AN ACFT 'STICK SHAKER' STALL APCHING INDICATION DURING TURN TO FINAL.

Narrative

ON 7/WED/92 FLT NUMBER; ON NICKEL 2 ARR; UNDER IMC WITH THE AUTOPLT ON; I DEPARTED ELMOS INTXN ON A VECTOR HDG FOR APCH TO 11L. I WAS CLRED DSNDED TO 4000 FT; SLOWED TO 170 KTS. I WAS LEVEL AT 4000 FT; 170 KTS; FLAPS 2 CARRYING PWR. THEY GAVE US 2 TURNS. I WAS IN THIS CONFIGN FOR APPROX 1 MIN. THEY GAVE US A TURN TO FINAL AND CLRED FOR THE APCH. AS I TURNED I STARTED TO GET A STICK SHAKER AT 15 DEG BANK. WE DID NOT GET A STICK SHAKER AT THE OTHER 2 TURNS WE WERE AT THE SAME SPD; PWR SETTING; AND ALT. THERE WAS NO ALT OR AIRSPD LOSS. THERE WAS NO BUFFET OR STALL -- JUST THE STICK SHAKER. I IMMEDIATELY ADDED PWR; ROLLED THE WINGS LEVEL; AND KNOCKED OFF THE AUTOPLT. AT THE SAME TIME I WAS DOING THIS; THE CAPT SAID; 'I'VE GOT IT. GAR PWR.' HE PUT THE FLAPS TO 15 CAUSING THE ACFT TO BALLOON. THEN HE LANDED. AT THE TIME THE BUG SPD FOR VZF (0 FLAPS) WAS 199. MY AIRSPD NEVER GOT BELOW 170; NOR WAS THERE ANY LOSS OF ALT. IN MY OPINION THE CALCULATED SPDS ARE TOO LOW -- THE COMPANY HAD DONE THIS IN THE INTEREST OF FUEL CONSERVATION. THIS ALSO COULD HAVE BEEN A PREMATURE STICK SHAKER.
