Synopsis

Air carrier Captain flying ERJ 170 aircraft reported windshear event during descent for approach.

Narrative

On our descent into ZZZ; we were descending down thru 10k and I had mentioned to the FO that the autopilot was having a hard time slowing down and keeping up in the winds that were swirling at all the altitudes. The aircraft leveled off momentarily at 10k to slow down the last bit from 264 to 250 knots; keeping us a little high on the path for vnav. After getting back down in VS mode ;I reactive the path mode and descended normally. At about 5k the airplane accidentally and momentarily went to fms speeds where I switched it back to manual 250 knots. Airspeed may have dropped 4 knots. Atc then asked us to slow down to 190 knots where I started slowing down and noticed it wasn't slowing fast enough so at 235 knots in a turn I asked for gear down" and at 220 I asked for flaps 1. After that ATC asked to turn to a northern heading. After turning a bit; atc said slow to 170 and direct to ZZZZZ. As the FO was Inputting that and verifying on his iPad; I noticed the airspeed rapidly decreasing and the barber pole stall indicator rising rapidly and I immediately increased the throttle to past the Detent ;disconnected the autopilot ; rolled wings leveled; and started a slight pull not to induce an accelerated stall. After recovering from a near stall. I leveled at 3500; regained complete control of the airplane. Re-engaged all automation; advised we were in a possible wind shear event and to stand by; while we regained our situational awareness; then climbing up to 4000 feet and getting vectored for the approach. No other occurrences happened."
