Synopsis
General aviation pilot reported during climb they deviated from their departure clearance in order to avoid a UAS.
Narrative
At approximately XA:18 AM after given an IFR Clearance with Deer Valley airport in Arizona I was given and departed using the Deer Valley Three departure obstacle clearance which I was given. Departing Deer Valley on runway seven right I started my departure...shortly thereafter I noticed an object; possibly a drone or a small balloon ahead of me and slightly high at my 10 o'clock position. Due to a small size; it was tough to estimate the exact distance. I was also keeping visual contact and separation with another aircraft that departed runway seven left that was ahead and above me. My greater concern was this object which I believe to be a drone. In order to avoid any possible collision with it and not knowing what direction it was heading; possibly into my flight path. I proceeded to reduce my climb rate and proceeded away from the drone; which was maintaining course and heading. When I felt it was safe to proceed with my given departure; and I could no longer see this object; I continued to follow the departure sequence. The Tower at Deer Valley airport directed me to follow the Deer Valley Three obstacle departure I acknowledged with affirmative; immediately thereafter; I was directed by Tower to contact Center; which I did. Center; then gave me radar vectors. Because of my deviation from the published IFR departure I was given is why I am notifying and filing this report. As the pilot [in] command I felt my deviation was necessary to avoid a possible conflict with this flying object which I believe was a drone; but could've been a small balloon. Tower did not inform me of any such object.
