Synopsis
Air carrier pilot reported static on ZME frequency 127.37 makes it difficult to understand ATC instructions and is a recurring issue in this sector.
Narrative
While flying through Memphis Centers airspace over the past few weeks I have noticed a static that makes it hard to listen to the frequency. Tonight I queried the controller to make sure it wasn't the aircraft I was flying. He informed me that he can't hear it; but all aircraft on frequency can and that it has been going on for at least 4 months. He asked us to file reports because none of his higher ups are doing anything to fix the problem. The static comes and goes at random with it last for a 10 to 30 seconds sometimes. While at other times it lasted for over 5 minutes. It is a huge safety of flight concern because in order to monitor the frequency both myself and my First Officer had to turn the radio way down. We then missed radio calls sometimes and barely heard them other times. The controller was very understanding due to his knowledge of the static issue; but this needs to be fixed. This happened on frequency 127.37 with Memphis Center. Fix the transmitters in Memphis Centers airspace.
