ACR MAINT INADVERTENTLY MADE THE WRONG 'FIX' CAUSING THE NEED TO SHUT DOWN 1 ENG SHORTLY AFTER TKOF. RETURN LAND.

Narrative

ACR ACFT 'N' NUMBER AT ABI CREW RPTED #2 ENG NOSE COWL ANTI-ICE VALVE WAS STUCK IN 'OPEN' POS. COULD NOT DISPATCH AIRPLANE WITH NOSE COWL VALVE OPEN BECAUSE OF AMBIENT TEMP GREATER THAN 50 DEG F. CONTACTED DISPATCHER AND WAS ADVISED COWL ANTI-ICE NEEDED FOR TRIP TO DEN BECAUSE OF TSTMS. INSTRUCTED LCL FIXED BASE MECH TO SWAP THE FAILED VALVE WITH THE R INLET GUIDE VANE VALVE. R INLET GUIDE VANE ANTI-ICE VALVE CAN BE DISPATCHED IN THE 'OPEN' POS WITH NO TEMP LIMITS. MECH ACCOMPLISHED SWAP OF VALVES. RPTED JOB WAS COMPLETED AND PAPERWORK FINISHED. FLT DEPARTED AND 20 MIN AFTER DEP CALLED ON ARINC FREQ RPTING HIGH OIL TEMP #2 ENG AND WAS RETURNING TO ABQ. FLC WAS ADVISED IF OIL TEMP REACHED 165 DEGS C TO SHUT ENG DOWN. CREW SHUTDOWN ENG AT 160 DEG C AND LANDED AT ABQ. CHK OF ENG REVEALED DEFECTIVE NOSE COWL ANTI-ICE VALVE WAS INSTALLED IN THE FUEL ANTI-ICE POS; WHICH; BEING FULL 'OPEN' HEATED THE FUEL AND OIL. WHILE I FEEL THE DESCRIPTION OF VALVE LOCATIONS MAY HAVE BEEN ADEQUATE TO LOCATE THE CORRECT POS; I SHOULD HAVE FAXED PICTURES OF THE VALVES MOUNTED ON THE ACTUAL ENG. THE PICTURES WOULD HAVE MADE THE JOB EASIER AND ACCURATE.
