AN SMT; ON APCH TO ARLINGTON; TX; LANDED AT GRAND PRAIRIE.

Narrative

ON A VISUAL APCH INTO ARLINGTON MUNICIPAL (F54) THE CAPT; NOT FLYING AT THE TIME; AND I MISTAKENLY IDENTED GRAND PRAIRIE ARPT (F67) AS F54 AND LANDED OUR SMT AT GRAND PRAIRIE. WE WERE VECTORED FOR A VISUAL APCH INTO ARLINGTON BY DALLAS APCH. WHEN WE SAW AN ARPT AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS THAT APPEARED TO BE ARLINGTON; WE CANCELLED IFR WITH DALLAS AND PROCEEDED WITH THE VISUAL APCH. WE WERE ABOUT 4 MI ENE OF GRAND PRAIRIE AT THE TIME. THE CAPT CALLED ARLINGTON UNICOM; GOT AN ARPT ADVISORY; AND RPTED OUR POS THROUGHOUT THE APCH. I LANDED THE AIRPLANE AND; UPON TAXIING UP TO THE RAMP; WE REALIZED THAT WE WERE AT THE WRONG ARPT BY THE MARKINGS ON THE RAMP THAT SAID GRAND PRAIRIE. WE THEN DEPARTED VFR AND LANDED AT ARLINGTON A FEW MINS AND 3 MI LATER. I FEEL THE FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE EVENT WERE THE FACT THAT : 1. NEITHER THE CAPT OR I BOTHERED TO VERIFY OUR LOCATION IN RELATIONSHIP TO ARLINGTON WITH ATC OR WITH THE LORAN. 2. NEITHER THE CAPT OR I HAD BEEN TO ARLINGTON (F54) IN THE DAY TIME; MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO IDENT IT FROM THE NEIGHBORING ARPTS. 3. ATC DID NOT TELL US OUR POS IN RELATION TO ARLINGTON BEFORE OR AFTER WE CANCELLED IFR. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: 1. AVOIDING COMPLACENCY IN THE COCKPIT (WE FLY ALL OVER THE COUNTRY EVERYDAY). 2. BETTER CREW COORD: ASSIGN SPECIFIC DUTIES TO THE FLYING AND NON- FLYING PLT. 3. HAVE ATC GIVE YOUR POS WHEN YOU CANCEL IFR FOR A VISUAL APCH.
