Synopsis

A319 First Officer reported left and right aileron fault messages on initial climb out. Flight crew diverted to a nearby airport.

Narrative

Climbing out of ZZZ for ZZZ1. At apx. 4000-5000'; we received an ECAM message F/CTL L AIL FAULT" and "F/CTL R AIL FAULT". The captain was flying; and stated "my aircraft". QRC and ECAM procedures were completed; the CPT then transferred the flight controls to me. He ran the QRH while I talked on the radio. It was decided we needed to [request priority handling]; and would be diverting to ZZZ2. The CPT informed the flight attendants; and also the company that we would be diverting. I established communications with ZZZ2; and was given a long straight in approach to the longest available runway. Once established on final; the aircraft was transferred back to the CPT. A subsequent landing and taxi to the gate was accomplished without incident. From my understanding this is a very rare occurrence; and had to do with computer failures on the aircraft. Running situations like this in the SIM was helpful in our real world experience and was helpful making a stressful event way easier to handle."
