Synopsis

PVT PLT OF SMA ACFT COLLAPSED THE NOSE GEAR DURING LNDG.

Narrative

THIS WAS THE SECOND LEG OF A COMBINED BUSINESS AND PLEASURE TRIP TO FULLERTON ARPT FROM VAN NUYS ARPT. A WALK-AROUND WAS COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE DEP FROM VNY WITH NO INDICATION OF ANOMALIES. IN ADDITION; A WX BRIEFING WAS RECEIVED THROUGH HAWTHORNE FLT SVC. THE FIRST LEG WAS COMPLETED IFR WITH A VOR-A APCH TO FUL WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE RETURN FLT WAS VIA A SIMILAR TWR/TWR IFR CLRNC TO VAN NUYS ARPT WITH ATC VECTORS TO AN ILS 16R APCH TO VNY. THE APCH WAS NORMAL; ON GS; UNTIL TOUCHDOWN AS INDICATED BY THE INSTS AND THE VASI LIGHTS. DURING THE APCH; THE TWR REQUESTED INCREASED SEPARATION FROM A LNDG AHEAD. IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THE TWR; THE ACFT WAS SLOWED BY THE APPLICATION OF FULL FLAPS AND SUFFICIENT ADDITIONAL PWR TO MAINTAIN GS. SPD 'OVER THE FENCE' ON FINAL WAS 75 KIAS. PWR WAS REDUCED TO IDLE JUST BEFORE THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN ON THE MAIN WHEELS. THE ACFT BOUNCED ONCE RETURNING TO THE GND ON THE MAIN WHEELS. WHEN THE NOSE CAME DOWN; THE WHEEL COLLAPSED. ON FIELD FAA INSPECTORS VIEWED THE DAMAGED ACFT; TOOK PICTURES; AND FILED A RPT.
