Synopsis

NORDO TFC LANDS AT NON TWR ARPT UNICOM AND CAUSES ANOTHER SMA TO GAR DURING APCH IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION UNAUTHORIZED LNDG. WRONG RWY LNDG.

Narrative

I DEPARTED COTTONWOOD; AZ; RWY 32 AT XA40. I TALKED TO ANOTHER DEPARTING ACFT IN FRONT OF ME AS HE WAS INFLT. HE RESPONDED TO MY COMMENTS. MY RADIOS WERE LOUD AND CLR. I WAS INFLT FOR 1.8 HRS. UPON RETURNING TO COTTONWOOD AREA FROM THE N I CALLED UNICOM APPROX 7 MI OUT TO INFORM MY INTENTIONS TO ENTER TFC PATTERN FOR R TFC LNDG RWY 32. I AGAIN CALLED IN THE BLIND PRIOR TO ENTERING PATTERN WITH SAME INFO; R LNDG RWY 32. NO RESPONSE FROM UNICOM IN PATTERN. I CALLED IN BLIND BASE LEG AND FINAL RWY 32. AFTER LNDG; WHILE TYING DOWN THE ACFT; FBO CAME IN FUEL TRUCK; WANTING TO KNOW WHY I DID NOT RPT MY INTENTIONS AS TFC HAD CHANGED TO USING RWY 14 WHILE I WAS INFLT. I LANDED AGAINST TFC; CAUSING ANOTHER ACFT LNDG TO GAR. WHILE FLYING THIS CIVIL AIR PATROL SORTIE; ANOTHER PRIVATE PLT; RETIRED; WAS IN THE R SEAT. ANOTHER PRIVATE PLT WAS IN REAR SEAT. ALL 3 OF US SAW HAND GLIDERS NW OF ARPT BUT NO OTHER ACFT IN PATTERN. AGAIN; WHILE TYING DOWN; AFTER TALKING TO THE FBO; A YOUNG FELLOW APPEARED SAYING THAT HE WAS A STUDENT PLT; WANTING TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS SURPRISED THIS HIS CFI HAD NOT QUESTIONED ME. THE STUDENT STATED THAT HE DID HAVE TO GAR FOR LNDG. A WITNESS ON THE GND THAT SAW BOTH ACFT TOLD ME THAT I WAS ON THE RWY AND TURNING OFF BEFORE OTHER ACFT APCHED THE THRESHOLD OR NUMBERS. AS I HAD NO RESPONSE FROM UNICOM; THINKING THAT HE WAS PUMPING GAS; I LANDED ON 32; THE RWY I DEPARTED FROM. THAT IS USED MOST FOR NOISE ABATEMENT. MY RADIOS HAD FAILED WHILE INFLT AND I DID NOT LOOK AT WINDSOCK.
