Synopsis
Air Carrier Captain reported while taxing for departure another aircraft taxied across the nose of their aircraft resulting in the Captain taking evasive action to avoid a collision with the other aircraft.
Narrative
While taxiing to depart at Houston Intercontinental; I almost colided with Aircraft Y.My clearance was to taxi westbound from spot 14 on NA; to hold short of NE for traffic. We complied; and once traffic passed we were cleared to taxi to 15 Left via left on NE; WW; to 15L. We were advised of no other traffic. While taxiing south on NE; I observed Aircraft Y taxiing north on WB at a fairly good rate. I anticipated he would turn left on WV to depart 15L (although in hindsight he would have been on WA). At any rate; I observed that he did not turn to his left towards 15L; even though I had sparred my turn onto WW. I came to an immediate stop as he cruised right by our nose; not even intentioning to slow down. We had already been switched to the tower controller. On frequency; I advised tower that we stopped to allow Aircraft Y to pass.Nether IAH ground; or when switched to tower; neither controller mentioned any traffic. Let me be clear. In 24 years of line flying; I have never passed so close to; or almost been hit by another jet. This is the closest call I have ever had. And Houston was not busy at all. I would have called it a ghost town.
