Synopsis

GA pilot reported they rejected the takeoff due to a conflict with another aircraft that was on final approach for landing.

Narrative

I was in my single engine aircraft in a line of planes on Taxiway 1 at ZZZ getting ready for takeoff Runway XX. When it was first plane before the runway hold line. I was asked if ready for takeoff and I said yes. I was then told to takeoff immediately as fast as possible. I did note there was a plane approximately on final was but was a least 500 feet. The controller was alternating takeoffs and landings due to volume of traffic. I do believe I said entering the runway for immediate takeoff. I then heard the controller tell the plane on approach to abort landing and me to abort takeoff. I was on my roll so I hit the brakes and exited first taxiway. The controller then said I didn't announce my immediate takeoff instructions. I thought I did but didn't argue and said my mistake. I did check my headset control box and I didn't have the noise cancellation power on. Although I can hear without that button pressed; I suspect that the controller couldn't hear my voice very well. I then went back in line and the next takeoff went smoothly. I am now adding to my check list prior to engine start to remember to push the noise cancellation button.
