Synopsis

B787 Captain reported ATC alerted the crew they were below glide path during on final approach.

Narrative

I was cleared to fly the ZZZZZ Arruval into ZZZ and was set up to fly the ILS to Runway XXL and briefed that approach. We ended up getting vectored north of the field for a visual to XXR. The ILS to XXR was out of service so I had my First Officer set us up for one of the RNAV approaches to XXR just as a backup. The kept us fairly high and we had the field in sight on the dogleg. We were cleared the visual and I was configured with gear and flaps 20. I was in speed intervene and clicked off the autopilot to try to get down and catch the glide path. I ended up overshooting it slightly. I was already correcting when the ZZZ Tower called to tell us that they were showing us low on final. We quickly recovered the glide path and continued visually to an uneventful landing. I did not think much of it since then; but I got a call today from the review committee regarding all this; so I thought it might make sense to document what happened. I never felt that safety was ever compromised and we debriefed the event fully as a crew.
