COMPLAINT REF DIGGING AT ARPT SHORTENING RWY BY 1500 FT AND CREATING HOLES ALONG SIDES OF RWY. HAZARDOUS TO ACFT ACTIVITY.

Narrative

FOR THE PAST YR THE OWNER OF THIS ARPT HAS BEEN DIGGING AND MINING DIRT AROUND THE PERIMETER OF RWY 14/32. IN THE PROCESS OF DOING THIS HE HAS SHORTENED THE RWY LENGTH BY APPROX 1500 FT. AROUND THE SIDES ARE CHASMS OF ABOUT 50 FT DEEP WITH LITTLE OR NO CLR WAY OR STOP WAY SPACE FOR AN ACFT LNDG LONG OR ABORTING A TKOF. THE LCL NOTAMS CONTINUE TO BE LISTED AS 1000 FT OF THE NW PORTION OF THE RWY UNUSABLE. IT IS MY FEELINGS THAT THE NOTAM INFO IS NOT ADEQUATE AND THAT JET OPS SHOULD CEASE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. IT PRESENTS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SIT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES HE HAS HAD NO PROB BUT FEELS IT IS A POTENTIAL PROB. THIS IS A PRIVATELY OWNED PUBLIC USE ARPT AND OWNER HAS EVERY RIGHT TO MINE THE SAND BUT SHOULD CREATE A SAFE SIT FOR ACFT. ANALYST MENTIONED THE HOT LINE AND HE WILL FOLLOW UP WITH A CALL. ANALYST CHKED WITH FSS REF NOTAMS; THE INFO WAS ILS LOC OTS AND RWY 14/32 NW PORTION FIRST 1000 FT CLOSED AS RPTR STATED. UNABLE TO FIND ANY PRINTED INFO REF RWY CLOSURE; ONLY THE OTS EQUIP.
