Narrative
I am writing this report to share my general concern about the poor runway markings at Dekalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK); Runway 21L. I am well aware of the challenges at this airport and the faded runway markings make landing on 21L even more difficult. Even in good conditions; when approaching to land; the edge markings; threshold; 500 feet and 1000 feet aim point are barely discernible from the rest of the runway surface. Wet and low light conditions add to the challenge. The poor instrument approaches and sub-standard lighting at PDK require expensive and complicated remedies but runway markings should be an 'easy fix' that I'm surprised has not been undertaken. Continuing an approach to land below MDA/DA requires visual acquisition of these markings and when they are faded and covered with tire marks; the chances of a late go-around are heightened. Or worse; an aircraft is landed well past the aim point and a runway overrun occurs. Takeoff is another complication. Our operations require these markings to be visible for poor weather takeoffs.
