Narrative
ON TKOF FROM RWY 16; THE PLT-SIDE DOOR POPPED OPEN. CALLED TWR AND EXPLAINED SITUATION. ASKED TO GAR AND COME BACK IN AND LAND TO CLOSE DOOR. TWR GAVE L CLOSED PATTERN AND CLRED TO LAND RWY 16. BUFFETING DOOR AND WIND ACTIVATING VOICE-ACTIVATED MIKE ON INTERCOM MADE HEARING COMS VERY DIFFICULT. KEPT PLANS IN TKOF CONFIGN -- GEAR DOWN AND 15 DEGS FLAPS. DID NOT CLB TO PATTERN ALT. OVERSHOT TURN TO FINAL. ONCE LINED UP AND OVER THE NUMBERS; PULLED THE PWR. DID NOT TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE FULL LOAD OF FUEL AND PLANE DROPPED. THE PLANE HIT HARD AND BOUNCED. APPARENTLY AT THIS TIME THE L MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED; (WITNESSES RPTED IT WAS COLLAPSED AS I VEERED TOWARDS TAXIWAY) AND POSSIBLY STABILATOR DRUG RWY. I MADE THE DECISION TO GAR; PUT IN FULL PWR AND PLANE VEERED SHARPLY TO THE R; OFF THE RWY AND ONTO GRASSY AREA. TRYING TO REGAIN CTL OF PLANE; I HAD L RUDDER FULLY DEFLECTED. WITH L RUDDER FULLY DEFLECTED; PLANE CONTINUED HDG R TOWARDS TAXIWAY AND PARKED HELI AND PLANES. I PULLED PWR AND PLANE CAME TO REST IN GRASSY AREA BTWN RWY 16 AND TAXIWAY WITH L MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED. ONCE I REALIZED DOOR WAS OPEN AND AFTER GETTING CLRNC FROM TWR; I SHOULD HAVE CLBED TO PATTERN ALTITUDE AND FLOWN NORMAL APCH. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 222870: AS A PAX/PLT THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED; IF I WOULD HAVE OFFERED TO TAKE OVER CTL OF PLANE; FLOWN A NORMAL APCH; AND LANDED PLANE FROM R SEAT.
