Synopsis

ACR MLG WING TIP STRIKE ON FUEL TRUCK WHEN PARKING AT GATE.

Narrative

WHEN TAXIING INTO ASSIGNED GATE PARKING POS; GND TAXI DIRECTOR DIRECTED A STOP (USING LIGHT SIGNAL) ABOUT 4-6 FT SHORT OF NORMAL GATE POS. VERY SHORTLY THEREAFTER (ABOUT 20 SECONDS) A GREEN LIGHT INDICATED CONTINUE TAXI. AFTER MOVING ONLY ABOUT 1 FT; THE ACFT CONTACTED SOMETHING AND ACFT WAS STOPPED AND CHOCKED. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION INDICATED THAT A FUEL TRUCK HAD MOVED INTO POS FORWARD OF THE R WING WHEN THE ACFT STOPPED THE FIRST TIME. THE LEADING EDGE OF THE R WING WAS CONTACTED BY THE FUEL TRUCK AS THE ACFT MOVED FORWARD INTO FINAL POS. THE INCIDENT WAS APPARENTLY CAUSED BY AN UNNECESSARY AND UNINTENTIONAL STOP SIGNAL SHORT OF THE INTENDED STOP POINT AND POOR COORD BTWN THE TAXI DIRECTOR AND OTHER GND PERSONNEL SVCING THE ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 222876: THE AGENT IN THE JETWAY INDICATED WE WERE SHORT OF THE GATE AND THE PARKING LIGHTS WENT OFF. AFTER A 15- 20 SECOND PAUSE; WE RECEIVED A GREEN LIGHT. WE ADDED PWR TO PULL UP TO THE FINAL PARKING LOCATION AND FELT A BUMP.
