Synopsis

General aviation pilot reported difficulty in finding the AYS Runway 19 threshold during taxi; citing faded paint as contributing.

Narrative

Taxiing to Runway 19 from the FBO; I had difficulty finding the threshold and might have crossed over it (but not quite on the runway itself) while waiting for clearance to take off.As there were ATC delays (I had filed quite recently before attempting to depart and there was an incoming plane on an instrument flight plan at this non-towered airport); I decided to play it safe and taxi back to well back from the runway. It's possible this wasn't an official taxiway as it had no designation on the taxi diagram (no letter assigned that I could see); but this day; as years before when we diverted to it; I've seen it used fairly frequently. In fact when it was time to retry ATC and depart; a jet announced it was taxiing to the same runway from the FBO and headed down the same path I had used. (So; rather than wait to call ATC and get clearance; I departed VFR promptly and picked up my clearance in the air; as I was likely to delay the jet by waiting for ATC to clear me to depart.)It would seem wise; at this airport; to officially designate the taxiways as needed; including proper and clearly visible thresholds. In general this airport seems to need some tender love and care; it wasn't in as good shape as I recall from years ago; but with three runways in its location would seem to be worth keeping going.
