Synopsis

Challenger 300 Captain reported an electrical system failure during descent. The systems eventually returned to normal functioning and flight continued to landing.

Narrative

While descending into ZZZ on the ZZZZZX arrival; the aircraft experienced a sudden electrical failure. EICAS messages indicated L ESS BUS and L BATTERY FAULT. We immediately advised ATC of the electrical issue and informed them that we were unable RVSM and RNAV due to equipment failure. The aircraft also lost Mode S transponder capability; requiring us to report crossing altitudes manually. We performed the QRH checklist for L ESS BUS failure. Midway through the checklist; both the L ESS BUS and L BATTERY indications cleared; and all affected systems returned to normal functionality. We advised ATC that our navigation and transponder capabilities were restored; and we continued with the arrival and approach as planned.During the event; the following EICAS advisories were also displayed: L & R Thrust Reverser Fault; Trim System Fault; Flap Fault; Spoiler Fault; Electrical FaultTo prevent reoccurrence; we maintained the cockpit configuration in accordance with QRH procedures. During descent; arrival; and approach; we verified that flaps; spoilers; and trim systems were operational. We briefed a landing assuming no thrust reverser availability and confirmed landing performance. The remainder of the flight and landing into ZZZ were uneventful. No injuries or aircraft damage occurred.Additional Notes:This aircraft has exhibited similar issues in the past. On the previous flight; an ELECTRICAL FAULT message also occurred. Maintenance was requested to meet the aircraft upon arrival into ZZZZ to inspect the issue.
