Narrative
AT APPROX XA00 HRS ON THE SAT OF OCT; I BRIEFED X ON A FORMATION FLT TO DOCKS ARPT WHICH WOULD INCLUDE A LOW PASS TO THE E SIDE OF THE RWY. PURPOSE OF THE FLT WAS TO ATTEND THE ADVERTISED FLY/DRIVE IN. THE CIRCULARS FOR THE FLY IN DID NOT SPECIFY THAT IT WAS AN AIR SHOW. WE COMPLETED THE FLT WITH ME FLYING ON THE OTHER ACFT'S R WING. AFTER THE PASS; WE PULLED UP TO PATTERN ALT AND LANDED. AFTER LNDG; I WAS APCHED BY AN FAA REPRESENTATIVE WHO ASKED FOR MY CREDENTIALS AND STATED THAT I WAS NOT ON THE AIR SHOW WAIVER. SINCE IT WAS NOT ADVERTISED AS AN AIR SHOW; I HAD NO IDEA THAT I NEEDED A WAIVER. HE FURTHER STATED THAT WE HAD VIOLATED THE 'DEAD MANS ZONE;' IE; 500 FT FROM THE CROWD BARRIERS. I CANNOT ATTEST TO THIS SINCE I WAS FLYING WING BUT OUR BRIEFING WAS TO FLY THE E SIDE OF THE FIELD FROM THE RWY AND THE CROWD BARRIERS WERE TO THE W SIDE OF THE RWY. I BELIEVE THAT; IF AN AIR SHOW WITH WAIVERS IS TO BE DONE; THEN I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN ALL POSTERS THAT ARE DISTRIBUTED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 223412. AT ABOUT 150 FT OFF THE GND I MOVED MY ACFT OVER COMPLETELY OFF THE E SIDE OF THE RWY SO THAT MY PARTNERS ACFT WOULD BE ABLE TO REMAIN THE CORRECT DISTANCE FROM THE CROWD. I REMAINED AT APPROX 150 FT OFF THE GND AND HE TURNED HIS WING UNDER MINE AND WE FLEW DOWN THE RWY. HE DID NOT KNOW AN AIR SHOW WAS GOING ON AS IT WAS ADVERTISED AS A FLY-IN AND LAST YEAR THERE HAD BEEN NO AIR SHOW PERFORMED AT THIS FLY-IN WHICH I HAD ATTENDED. ALSO; WE WERE THE CORRECT DISTANCE FROM THE CROWD IN MY ESTIMATION.
