Synopsis
Recreational / Hobbyist UAS pilot reported flying in controlled airspace without authorization. During a battery change they realized they never submitted their LAANC request.
Narrative
I intended to fly my drone to practice aerial photography.I use the 'Air Control' app to file LAANC authorizations and have done so on numerous prior occasions. On the report date; I opened the app and selected the option to file for part 107 LAANC authorization. I selected about a 3 square block operating area approximately 4 nautical miles SW of FXE on the very edge of the FXE class D airspace.I requested my operating altitude to be up to 400 feet AGL as this was the auto approved altitude for that area.At the time I did not realize that I did not press the 'Agree & Submit' button which is what formally submits the LAANC authorization.I launched my drone and flew it as I normally do. I did not realize I forgot to press the 'Agree & Submit' button until when I landed my drone to recharge the drone battery. When I opened the 'Air Control' app to close the LAANC authorization I realized I forgot to submit it.Upon realizing my mistake; I filed for and received another LAANC and completed my flight. I reviewed the drone records and found the drone never exceeded approximately 200 feet AGL while at the edge of the FXE class D airspace. In the future I will make sure and confirm I have received the LAANC authorization confirmation via email and text prior to launching my drone.
