Synopsis

B777 Captain reported that upon arrival; the girt bar on 2L door was still attached to the floor; handle disarmed. Pilot manually unlocked girt bar from floor in order to egress aircraft. Escape slide did not deploy.

Narrative

After parking and getting ready to exit the cockpit; the purser told us that the 2L door while opening still had the girt bar attached to the floor. I told him to move all passengers and crew 25 feet from the door. We called ops to have someone pull the jetway up to door 1L. They responded that the fwd jetway was inop. I had the other pilots call maintenance. At that time I preceded to door 2L to assess the situation. I was assisted by the Purser. We both assessed that the door was open about a foot; the handle was in the disarmed position; and the girt bar was still attached to the floor. And double checked to make sure. I estimated there was about a foot and a half of door travel until the slide would have been deployed. The door would not pull back to the closed position.Since our only means of egress was blocked; I saw it necessary to manually unlock the girt bar from the floor. After that I held the girt bar under the slide where it normally is stowed and had the purser open the door while I was supporting the girt bar so it could not catch or snag and not accidentally deploy.
