EMB-175 Captain reported encountering wake turbulence on approach to IAH in trail of an A220.
Synopsis
EMB-175 Captain reported encountering wake turbulence on approach to IAH in trail of an A220.
Narrative
On final approach at 3000ft MSL; we encountered wake turbulence. The aircraft rolled over 20 deg of bank in each direction. Being caught off guard by this event; I did not take specific note of indicated airspeed; but there was a sensation of sinking and likely a loss of speed. The roll attitude was more noticeable and distracting. Upon query of ATC to find out what aircraft we were following we were advised it was a BD-700/BCS3 type. Wind; as indicated on the PFD (Primary Flight Display); was varying in direction; but was mostly indicating a tailwind of approximately 3-5 knots at 3000 ft. That aircraft was certainly at that altitude crossing the CHUBS intersection just ahead of us and wake lingers with tailwind. Surface winds; reported by IAH Tower as we were on short final; 110 at 7kts.Suggestions: I believe more attention should be given to wake turbulence. The voice on ATC did not seem to take me seriously with the report; and I suspect neither did other aircraft on frequency. I heard a comment; but was too distracted with the upset attitude of the aircraft movement to pay close attention to that. I have also experienced an aircraft upset following a company E-175. EVERY aircraft creates wake.
