Synopsis

ERJ 170-200 first officer reported during cruise they got an EICAS message for pressurization auto fault. They descended to a lower altitude with ATC guidance.

Narrative

Our flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1 was normal up until cruise. At some point in cruise; I'm unsure where we were exactly; I noticed my ears were suddenly popping dramatically. I looked at our pressurization display on the EICAS and saw that the cabin was climbing at roughly 3;000 fpm and was highlighted amber. I made a remark to the captain along the lines of the cabin is climbing". Within seconds of making this remark; the cabin stopped climbing and the MFD (Multi-function Flight Display) pressurization display was no longer amber. I then noticed the advisory message displayed on the EICAS "PRESN AUTO FAULT". The captain said we should start a descent and asked ATC for a lower altitude; citing pressurization issues. ATC gave us the lower altitude and I began our descent. The captain remarked that I should descend faster because the cabin could start climbing again; and asked that I use full speed brakes. I complied and we continued the descent all the way to ten thousand feet. In the descent the captain ran the QRH. The captain informed ATC that we had the issue sorted out and could proceed to ZZZ1 normally. As we got closer to ZZZ1; I transferred controls to the captain due to the winds advertised on the ATIS exceeding my low time FO minimums. The rest of the flight occurred normally and we parked at the gate and debriefed."
